My work deals with the human experience and where it overlaps with the natural world. I use topics such as memory, loss, and mortality to build a narrative that is genuine and impactful. The experiences we go through in life make us who we are as individuals. My work is an expression of my experiences with the people in my life but also the places that I interact with. I often draw on memories built on interactions with wildlife and wild landscapes to express my affinity for them, but also to call attention to their value and showcase the importance of their preservation.

We as humans have built a society that is growing more disconnected from the rest of the world around us. When we open a door, we may notice it is made of wood but most of us are disconnected from the fact that the door was once a tree that was cut and shaped. Or, if made of metal then it was once minerals and elements heated together and formed into a door. I use natural materials that have been processed in some way in my pieces to convey a sense of connection to the natural world. Materials like wood, metal, clay, leather and sometimes bone are naturally occurring resources that have been manipulated or processed by humans and shows our interaction with natural things.

My desire is that my work reminds the viewer that humans co-evolved with other species on earth and that we do not hold dominion over any but are in fact connected to all. We use materials and objects daily that are connected to the natural world and should take time to remember and cherish that connection.
